@WVduckchick No, I haven't tried the weight method; If I have any complications with my humidity this hatch that will likely be my next step.

I think my lack of experience judging the air cells is my problem there. I think I'll be able to better judge the air cells after using the weight method and after a few more hatches. I'll know better what they "should" look like. Pics and drawings are great, but actual hands on is better for me.

Gotchya.... I'm the visual (and action) sort. Seeing the growth of the air cells and the logistics behind it is what helps me. I totally swear by it...lol, but that's because it just clicks with me. I will admit sometimes I still have to look from egg to pic to egg to pic before I am certain I am judging correctly....lol

Kinda off topic, but does anyone have any experience with how easy Wyandottes hatch? This will be my first experience with them, thanks!

Well, the 9200 did it again, except the temp rose this time. Overnight the temperature went from a perfect 101 to 104; I have no idea how long it stayed there, just that it was that high when I woke up. I'm starting to debate throwing it in the trash when this hatch is over...

@AmyLynn2374 Has your incubator experienced temp swings overnight? The room it's in hasn't changed more than a degree or two, and I really don't know what it causing it. Thanks!

Strangely this morning I checked the temp on one of my thermometers and saw a max rise of 102. Its a probe thermometer that I have through the vent hole. It has a resettable max and min button so I reset it every night before bed.
I was thinking that because I added a splash of water last night, maybe that caused the rise. I candled a few and they appear fine. My other thermometers didn't read that high, so I'm not really sure anyway.
Tomorrow is lockdown for me. I'll add some water to up the humidity, and keep a close eye on all thermometers. Thank goodness I'm off work this week!

Did you check the eggs? I forgot what day you are on.

Yep, I candled a few to check. They still had good veining, so I'm assuming all is well; I have my temp back steady now. I'm still early on, day 8. Keep me updated on your hatch, what kind of incubator are you using?

Good deal. Don't chuck em yet!

I'm using a knock-off chinese Janoel, I suppose. 48-egg capacity with turner. But I don't trust the units meters! I also wrapped it in some high-tech duct wrap that my husband uses for hvac. It has seemed to help keep the temps more consistent.
I'll post some pics in a few days when my babies pop out. I'm trying to be optimistic!

Mine's been perfect at 99 (I have the fan kit installed) it changes to the tenth of the degree, but I babysit it like a hawk...lol Even though it holds the temp steady pretty good (unless the humidity starts to drop, then it will slowly increase, I combat it with a couple drops of water to even out the humidity and then the temp will even out), I am still checking it every hour to two hours at night because they have that reputation for spiking. I am beginning to think that if you add a bit of water before bed and don't adjust the temp for the slight dip in the temp that it will cause that (unless your ambient is real dry and dries out the incubator quickly) it will hold better and be less prone to spike at night.
Because I couln't go totally dry this time I am playing with using my vent holes and humidity to control the temp instead of adjusting the knob and so far it's working awesome.

Usually (Note I said usually) adding water, unless you are heating the water first, adding the water will higher the humidity and make the temp dip. As the humidity starts to fall the temp will start to rise. If the humidity is slowly falling, the temp will gradually climb. If it drops dramatically, you will have a temp spike.

Luckily I have been able to catch mine just as it is slowly rising...100-100.5. I add a tiny bit of water and leave it and it's been averaging right back out to 99.5-99.6
