Oh ok, I was just thinking some of those little boogers begin trying to fly pretty quickly and can end up all over your garage if you don't put a screen on the box. Its at least something to consider.
And make sure your light(s) are secure and can't fall off. I figure you have, I just couldn't tell from the picture and wanted to man sure you have considered it.
thanks.

I have several old window screens in my garage I'm sure they will work. And yes the lights are secured. .. they are already secured I'm super paranoid of house fires.

Update.

I have 9 chicks so far and tomorrow is day 21. I set the eggs on Monday around 9:00 P.M. I hope to get more chicks tomorrow. It's bed time for now. Good night.

Good luck! Its so stressful!

My first 9 hatched and I thought they were done. 4 eggs left, but I didn't think anything was going to happen with them. To my surprise, another one pipped, and hatched about 6 hours later! I pulled that chick and checked the last 3 eggs. One was definitely gone. Air cell was perfectly round, no movement. When I opened it up, it appears to have quit around day 19ish. Last 2 actually had some movement, so I left them in. Nothing happened overnight, so we'll see what happens while I'm at work today. Day 24 today. 3 hatched on day 21, 6 on day 22, one on day 23.

Now I have one little psycho chick that I had to isolate. It seems to freak out over anything and was scratching its own neck so badly that it was bleeding and all the hair was gone. Of course, the other chicks were pecking at it, so I isolated it. Used some cloth medical tape and taped up its feet, and put some Neosporin on the neck. Giving it sav-a-chick, and its drinking fine. Pooping fine. It has moments of being perfectly ok. But it was still freaking out a little this morning. It shakes its head, almost like an ear infection or something, and then starts scratching away and cheeping like its being attacked. The tape helped so the neck looked much better this morning, but I don't know if its neurological or what it might be. I sure hope I don't have to put it down....

Hi I'm new here too... on my first try at incubation and hoping for hatching Monday. I discovered the best way to keep my humidity level is disposable diapers. (Clean ones of course :p ) I saturate them and place them in the bottom. .. they hold a lot of liquid, have a large surface area, and I didn't have to fiddle with my water everyday. Just a though. Good luck with your first set of eggs. I'm hoping for a good outcome. I'm thinking my next project will be ducklings

That's a neat idea! I have plenty of disposable diapers at hand, haha. Ducks would be a fun one too! I'd love to have some ducks if I had the room. I'm starting to wish we had gone for a place with more acreage rather than a neighborhood home

I had no idea what I was getting myself into getting chickens, who would have guessed they'd be so addictive, haha!

Congrats! I wonder if the late hatchers were in cool spots in the bator.

Lockdown starts today and I have nothing but horrific weather rolling through, praying the power does not go out.
Good luck!!!!
