The Hoomin was late this morning with the food. What could be the hold up? The girls were getting restless and little Jon had checked every corner of the coop 3 times over for treats for them. Finally the gate opened and that featherless person came out. Funny thought, she didn't have the bucket of food with her. Little Jon rounded the girls up in the corner and issued his standard warnings as the Hoomin opened the coop gate. Then she just turned around and walked away!!!! No food AND she left the gate open? Little Jon didn't like this one bit! What if a dove came in, or worse, what if someone got out! Before he could visualise the chaos that might ensue, the gangster girls rushed to the gated and jumped out! OH NO! He began his panic! He called them back in and koooooed something fierce but to no avail. The girls were out and scratching in the flower beds in no time. Trudie hung around little Jon and Sarah stayed put on the nest. The hoomin left and went into the house. Little Jon wondered what could possible be more important than getting those gangster girls back in the coop, but it seems he would have to go about this all by himself.
He called louder and louder and paced impatiently up and down trying to get to the gangster girls. In his frantic freak out, he hadn't noticed that Trudie slipped out the gate TOO and joined the gangster girls. This was the last straw! He sounded the alarm and called for the hoomin with desperation and urgency! SHE made this mess and SHE would have to fix it! The hoomin finally came out to see what the huge issue was and found little Jon almost having a heart attack in the coop while the girls leisurely perused the nearby flowerbed.
The hoomin stepped in the coop and grabbed little Jon. Little Jon felt sure that this was the end of him. He screamed and bagaawked and flapped around awkwardly. Then with legs flailing, the hoomin put him down on the ground outside the coop and let go. He ran off to join the girls as fast as his little legs could run. When he reached them he turned to look at the hoomin with eyes as big a saucers! Out of breath and feathers (the few he still has left) messy, he crowed a few times to make sure no-one thought he was a 'chicken' so to speak.
The girls didn't seem the least bit worried about the dangers of doves and thoroughly enjoyed the flowerbeds. Hester took a dustbath and Trudie gobbled up everything green that she could find. TT hung close to Trudie (her almost BFF). Little Jon started to calm down and did a bit of scratching himself. There were plenty of treats to show the girls out here! He was actually starting to have a good time. He notices how the sun hi-lighted Sussie's green feathers and thought she was very pretty there between the garlic flowers. He approached and made his move. Sussie was receptive and a romantic moment ensued.
Around 11:30am, little Jon decided the day's outing was over. By the time the hoomin came out to check on them, little Jon had rounded the girls up and had them all safely back in the coop. The hoomin laughed at little Jon and closed the door. Thank heavens! he thought to himself. He hoped that that silly hoomin wouldn't make that mistake again!
