My production red has been in the coop for days, she only leaves when I make her to collect eggs. Her rump is torn up and until this morning I thought she was going broody and wasn't leaving the nest to eat and because feathers are 85% protein, I figured she was eating them for food. this morning I went to check on her and noticed tan/light yellow bugs around her vent. I looked at my other chickens and they seemed fine so I got out an old dog kennel, filled it with wood shavings, added food and water, put 2 eggs in there so she could nest, then put her in there. I'm going to do some more research but I figured I go to BYC first. Please help!

Sounds like poultry lice - I would suggest dusting your entire flock *and* you will need to treat the coop, nest boxes, etc -- also, you will need to repeat treatment in about 7 days.

She's doing a lot better now. Looks healthy and is back to normal. She still has to grow back some feathers but is doing good overall. Thanks for the help!
