I bought twenty baby crickets for our seven future laying hens (about six weeks old now) and the result was quite amusing!

Hop, hop, hop, nom, nom, hop, nom, hop, nom.....

Off to the bait shop today for more live prey/treats! I'll try the video camera with the next batch.

I had some crickets left over from a fishing trip once, and gave them to my juveniles....and OMG...too funny!!

They absolutely LOVED them. Thought they were gonna beat each other up trying to get to them first.

Good to know they like to eat crickets, because I went into the coop to check on my girls the other evening and suddenly saw big, juicy crickets hopping around in the pine shavings. Unfortunately, the girls were roosting for the night and uninterested. I guess they were saving them for breakfast.

I know! I love watching chickens find a yummy morsel of insect or arachnid goodness! Mine loved meal worms. I could get them to do the most amazing tricks for meal worms. But I have to say, the best mouser I ever had was not a cat but a chicken named Muffie. She was a relentless mouser but we had to watcher her when she found rats. She'd try for those but they usually were as big as her and fisty. We did want her to get hurt trying to talk out a rat, but she did take a young one out.
As my hubby say" If it creepeths and crawleths on the face of the earth, chickens will eat it"
