My DH asked me the other day about the weight of a live chicken and how it compares to the processed weight. NOT that the Delightful Dozen have anything to worry about for a long time to come, but it was a question I had no clue about and I was sure someone here would have some possible answers.
I tell DH how awesome this board is!!

You can expect the processed weight to be about 70-75% of the live weight for your standard broiler/meat chicken.

Thanks for the answers. But what if the birds are not meat birds but just heavies like our birds. If a hen weighs in at 5.5 lbs, what might I expect the processed weight be?
We had steeled ourselves to process if any of the Delightful Dozen turned out to be roosters - thankfully, all are pullets so we don't have to think about that yet.
Again, thanks for any information.
