Hi! I have some White Leghorns who are my most docile birds, and some Easter Eggers and other "lapdog" breeds that will come around me but hate to be touched.
I was just wondering if any of you purchased a certain breed because you thought they would be lapdogs, and they ended up being very skittish. And you purchased some "skittish" birds that ended up being the lapdog! Because I certainly have :p

If Betty, Snowball, or Agnes (all three are my White Leghorns) spot me outside, they will not leave me alone until I pet them or pick them up. Snowball will peck and peck me until I hold her, Betty will trip me because she's trying to sit on my feet, and Agnes will just walk beside me until I go inside.

I have 2 Easter Eggers, Queen and Ginger, that will not let me hold them no matter what! My late Silkie "Pickle" was a good broody but hated to be around me.

If you all have any stories you'd like to share, feel free! :D

My Anconas. I bought them because I liked the idea they watch out for Sky predators better than most breeds. I was fine with having a very skittish bird that hates being near me. Instead...
I now have 3 loveable Ancona hens who just adore my company and follow me everywhere. They don't enjoy being held like my Isa Brown does, but they love to rub up against me like a cat and softly peck at my legs for attention. They aren't flighty like I've read they are, but I haven't lost a single Ancona to a predator in the six years I've had them :thumbsup

And then the opposite, my silkies. I've got 10 silkies, all different colors and all unrelated. They all HATE me, they scream and start having panic attacks as soon as I step in the run. They won't come to me for food, and aren't even good broodies. I'm trying to get rid of them, as they just aren't a fun breed like they are supposed to be. Not to mention, they bully my other bantams horribly.

My Polish hen, Isa Brown hen, and Frizzle/Sizzle roosters are like playful puppies. They love to be cuddled, petted, and played with. My one sizzle rooster LOVES to be thrown, I'll throw him and he "flies". He then runs back to me and stands on my feet, waiting to do it again. We will do this for probably twenty minutes, it's so adorable.

i have a white leghorn my wife calls louise. was given to us by a friend. she is always underfoot and lets us pick her up. she's ugly but great tempered. will eat out of my hand while im holding her. also have 2 bantams we got from TSC . don't remember the breed but they are tiny birds. smaller than the other bantams. silver duckwing something. the hen looks like some kind of partridge w/ neat looking patterns. the roos is somewhat like a silver wyandotte but different. both are extremely docile and always come greet us in the coop. im going to seperate them so they can breed next spring. ill sell the chicks for pets. they are more friendly than our silkies. the rest of our silver wynadottes, barred rocks , siberians, banevelders and sebrights will come to us but prefer not to be handled. my african geese, called laverne and shirley, follow me around the yard and are never more that 50ft. away. been following me since they were goslings. very spoiled!

You all certainly do deal with this  @HuskerHens18, Ancona's have always intrigued me, I love their huge combs and beautiful plumage.

Here's my tag-along, Snowball:

Has anyone ever had a Black Australorp that didn't live up to its description? You know: curious, friendly, calm, great to have around, etc. Because I certainly haven't :p
Bibby, my Aussie is spoiled rotten and everyone's favorite:

I currently only have one Australorp and I can't stand her. Noisy, skiddish, and constantly acting broody without being actually broody. I had some before that were great birds.

Well, that stinks. I just figured all Aussies were just so lovable :idunno Goes to show you that chickens can very well prove you wrong ;)
