Loaded the bator!!! Wheeeeee!

What causes crossbeak and missing eyes?
It's my understanding that high temperatures during critical periods of incubation can cause both cross beak or missing eyes but for the chick to have both when your other chicks are completely fine I think you're more likely to be contending with something genetic, bacterial, viral, something along those lines.
These are possibilities.
Poor nutrition can be another.
Were the deformed all one same breed, how many of them??
These were all shipped eggs?

I had 6 Maran eggs shipped, and 11 svarthona eggs shipped, they came a fair way. I added a number of eggs from my chicken house but the majority weren’t fertilized. I only had one deformed Maran that I am aware of. I didn’t open the three other Maran eggs that didn’t pip because they didn’t make any peeping noises. I think time of year, and not having control of the feed etc of the parent flock plus shipping. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Might be interesting to open them anyway....see if they are deformed too.

unless they are also Goo... 🤮

if I could see through the shell I’d be more inclined, I only opened up that last one because I could hear him peeping and he was well overdue. I was hoping I could save him, but quality of life was a big factor in that one. It was way too twisted to even consider trying to eat or drink.

I use a plastic bag and an old broken dental tool,
outside right next to the curby,
to keep any 'gross' contained.

🤔 it would be interesting to see what went wrong. If I get a Bunch next hatch I will have to look into it.

Though I am going to get one of those brinsea spot check thermos (maybe two lol) and a Couple hygrometers, and maybe a fan addition so it’s not still air.

Awesome, nice to see your new babies, and yes hatching is addictive. It is like having a bunch of youngins without having to worry about sending them off to college :gig

No kidding, and they still hate me either way 😂 I don’t understand how people have FRIENDLY chickens...even these guys who I Watched hatch. Prefer to be left alone.( I pick them up daily regardless lol)

Once they start laying they chill out. They're always kind of flighty when they're tiny in my experience. We do still handle them a lot though. The more you're around them, the more comfortable they are with you.
