local shop owner allowed to have chickens but cant use the eggs

Doesn't WIC normally go for least expensive option? I know the brown eggs in our local grocers are all more expensive than white (I guess people think brown = vitamins???) so that might be why. White eggs are more mainstream and mass produced and normally cheaper.

I actually got into a debate about the nutritional value of white eggs vs. brown eggs last night

I love it when non chicken owners try and tell me that cause my eggs are brown they are better then white eggs.

she would not believe me when i told her my white eggs have the same values as my brown eggs because the hens are fed the same diet of grass and bugs and good things... but nope white eggs are no good to her..

she was asking if i sell my eggs and i said yes, she asked if they were white or brown?...i said both...she said..oo i dont eat white eggs they are not as good for you as brown...

i think it may have something to do with the aversion to "white" food products. white breat, white rice, white flour, white eggs too?

Seems to me that requiring a label saying that the eggs and veggies were home grown and had not been government inspected would cover the bases? Kind of like how restaurants now have to list a warning about undercooked meat. Gives people the opportunity to make choices, and opens the opportunity to teach a few things--how backyard hens are raised & fed versus commercial hens, etc.

I would be more worried about the veggies, too. I don't recall any recalled eggs; unlike various veggies and meats.

That's funny!

I think you're right. The brown eggs sound more like the whole wheat version while the white eggs are WonderBread.

I wonder if someone like this sees a difference in the color of the broiler? Are white chickens less healthy than RIRs? Are Angus cattle more nutritional than Herefords? That would be an interesting question to bring up if you get into such a conversation again.
