Hi everyone, Laurie & I (Ben) are from Oneida County, Wisconsin. We are located in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Not many farms around here, but we have plenty of trees, deer, bears, wolves, eagles, coyotes, fishers, weasels, and summer time mosquitoes.

Last summer we turned in a request to the County asking for a new ordinance allowing for backyard chickens in residential areas. We have over 30 acres and are zoned residential which does not allow us to have livestock. This month our County Board of Supervisors will be looking at a new chicken/duck ordinance that came out of the Planning & Zoning Committee. We have had two good public hearing on the ordinance and it looks good that we will get approval.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

We both had chickens and ducks when we grew up as kids.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

None, working on getting a new county ordinance approved, to allow us to have up to 8 birds.

(3) What breeds do you have?

Not sure yet, thinking about 4 different breeds of large egg layers.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

Researching for material about back yard chickens for my presentation for the county planning and zoning public hearings.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Both - Gardening, fishing, canoeing, watching the wildlife out our back door, movies, grandkids Hopefully raising a few chickens
Laurie - Painting, arts and crafts, refinishing furniture, help with daughter wedding.
Ben - All sorts of Hunting, reloading, carpetnery, Delagate to Wis. Conservation Congress

6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

We each have a small business.

No pets at this time, other than the hummingbirds, deer, bears and a lot of wildlife.

We are thinking positive on our future and have been enjoying this forum for many months.

Respectfully,
Ben & Laurie

from your neighbor to the southwest. We were fortunate to build in an Ag/Residential zone so we can have all the chickens we want!! Horses, pigs, and cattle are another matter. Keeping my fingers crossed for your ordinance endeavor.
