Location of coop and run

It's me and two little kiddos, I am starting to learn I have limits.

I imagine it's pretty hard being a single parent. Lots of things more important that a high maintenance lawn, for sure.

:old Knowing my limits has made my life better. As I get older, I discover more things that reach that limit line. Fortunately, I am still at a stage where I can upgrade most of my tools and equipment to continue doing things I like. Life is constant readjustments.

I'm still learning mine but getting better. Life is too short to be crazy. I love being busy but I want that busy to be quality things. My kiddos get zero influence from their dad so trying to fill both roles is important to me (and part of building the coop with my son) but the balancing act is challenging for sure. I'm a work in progress like everyone else. I'll get there. Lol.

:old Some of my earilest, and best memories, are of me "helping" my grandfather build an outdoor biffy at our rented lake property when we had an old small camper. I was very young, not even in school yet, but grandpa would pick me up and sit me down on a board that he was cutting with his hand saw. Every once in a while I would get to cut a board myself and maybe pound a few nails. Always under supervision. He always made a big deal about me helping him and having grandma look at what "we" built.

15 years later, I was part of a family crew building a proper Lake Cabin for my grandparents, my grandpa too old to do much anymore, but he had us grandchildren doing everything we needed to do because he had taught us over the years.

I don't know how old your kids are, but I just think it's great that you are getting chickens and having your kids involved in the building project. Even if it's just sitting on a board, being part of the project builds memories. Making a kid feel good for "helping"- priceless.

That is how to do it. Your Grandpa was a very good man.

@Kidwantschickens, your kids are lucky to have you for a mom. Being involved with their lives and them being involved with yours is a gift that too many don't experience these days.

It's sad. I see it. I have friends I see it in. My kids don't rule the roost by any means, I'm not that kind of parent, but they are involved in just about everything I do and are my first thought. I don't understand putting my wants before a child's needs, and they need time.

I work to balance that my wants are important too, I don't want them to be entitled adults. But we talk a lot about being a team and we support each other etc. They are only 7 and 8 so, lots of time to see who they become. :)

Plus when they're adults I want them to be well rounded and I want them to to be used to a quality of life that they don't settle for less.

Sounds like you have it figured out pretty well. Your kids are lucky to have you. At 7 and 8, they can actually help with your family projects and they will be all the better for it.

I hope you get a chance to post your progress on the chicken project. We all love pics.
