What do you recommend to put under the eggs at lock down to cover the wire in the bator. I think I will leave them in cartons, but worry about getting feet caught in the wire. I don't want smother my water pan. Or does that matter. Paper towel over floor. Sham wow shammie? ideads.

I use shelf-liner.
It's kinda foamy - for traction and it has little holes in it - for air circulation.

some people use egg cartons with holes cut in the bottom to let the humidity in. Oters I've seen make little paper cups. i just put my eggs straight on the wire.

We use cheesecloth - easy to pick up and throw away when they are done hatching and their little toes do not get stuck. It is soft too!

rubber shelf liner in the bator and the the brooder. oh and eggs in the cartons with holes in the bottom

Yup, same here. Washable, good traction, lets humidity/temp circulate, good traction for little chick feet!...................................Cheap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
