Woohoo! We're at day 19 and put mama on lockdown. Last night we moved her from her nesting box (6ft up) down to a dog crate on the floor, she took to it very well. First timer here hatching, what can I expect?

Let the hen do her job. Many a chick has been lost to impatient owners looking under the broody every ten minutes-been there and done that. The eggs will hatch best if the hen is undisturbed and has no call to become upset. It just takes a careless moment for an egg or chick to be crushed. Good luck

Thank you! I'll be leaving her a lone for the next few days. She has food and water and with all the rain here the Mosquitos are atrocious so I don't even wanna be outside! I'm glad she took to the move well

Update!!

We have a chick!! 3 more eggs to go. Mama is very protective and will have nothing to do with my hands in there, I'm the same with my babies too ;).

Super! But I will warn you again; every time you look under that hen you take the chance, that in her distress, quick movement or a misplaced foot could easily result in crushed eggs. Hatching eggs are weakened by the hatching process and they are easily crushed so the chick can not hatch. Helping a chick from a crushed egg is risky. Too soon and the chick dies and too late... Good luck and enjoy the new babies.
