Lock Down Day! Anyone Else?

These chickies are really quiet compared to the ones I bought last year. I've dipped beaks in water every now and then. They made more noise in the shell Been resting under the light, will get up and move around with a few cheerful peeps but not really interested in water yet. I know they don't have to have anything for up to 3 days so I'm hoping that's what it is keeping them quiet. The post above- are yours rir cuz they sure look like mine;-)

Update:

I candled my eggs last night and have 3 that are still alive and moving. No internal pipping, no chirping.

The one that I pipped is still alive. We are keeping the membrane moist with a washcloth.

This morning while adding wet paper towels and water, I heard some chirping.

I refuse to give up on my three chicks as we start Day 24.

If your chicks hatch and the belly button is still attached, be sure to let it dry out. I leave it connected if I can and take off as much of the lower shell as I can and leave the connected part, because they get to kicking that shell if it is left.

Give them time, they will start eating and drinking when ifs time. No need to dip the beaks in the water. Be sure they're not cold. If the temp where you have they stays initially around 90-95deg, they will be more active and not stay so huddled up. Again, be patient and give them time.

All 3 of my remaining chicks died. The chirping I heard was from a different egg we candled and didn't see movement but didn't have the heart to take it out of the bator yet. He was chirping and tapping this morning so we did not help with pipping. We were to late by this afternoon.

The shell seemed really thick. Does someone has suggestion on what to do about that???

I learned a lot from my first hatch and really enjoyed hearing how all of yours went.

Cut back on the level of protein feed when planning of gathering the eggs for hatching. A 10-12% level protein feed is adequate. Be sure not to use ground oyster shells etc. these too assist with a thicker, harder egg shell.
DUMAR carries a wide variety of feeds and can be purchased at TSC. This is what we feed and use a 16% fed to hens when eggs are for consumption. A 10-12% for eggs to be incubated.
