My question is I have 4 out of 19 chicks that have hatched its day 23 here. They hatched at 4am. DDog woke me up cause his babies were cheeping. Yeah really big lab made me show him the bator! He wimpers anytime he hears a noise in the bator. Anyway what happens when they dry out and the other eggs have not hatched yet? I dont want to shrinkwrap the others!

If you have to open your incubator to take chicks out you immediately let in dry and cold air which chills the chicks. Try making a humidity system that does not require you to open the door, like a hospital drip system with a pipe going into the incubator. if this is nt suitable have a spray bottle with WARM water available and as you open the incubator spray all unopened eggs with the warm water. Close as quick as you can.

Hi

I know for a lot of members opening the incubator during lockdown is a taboo subject. However, I do it on a regular basis if I wish to assist and/or remove chicks. As you've still got the majority of your hatch to go then I'd say remove the chicks. If any others have externally pipped but the chicks have rolled them about then simply place them pip side uppermost.

You can then seal your incubator and let the humidity rise up again. In our hatcher its big enough to take a plastic box with a fitted piece of carpet in. Hatched chicks are placed in there while the other eggs progress.

Thats my opinion, hope it helps you

I open the bator to remove dry hatched chicks to the brooder. I mist the remaining eggs lightly. Hasn't been a big problem for me. It is the only time my incubator is opened during hatch and I work fast.

thanks to being in the medical field I have oxygen tubing and syrenges so I boost up that humidity with out touching the bator! Nothing here to mist the eggs! I think it may be smart to leave them as a storm has rolled in and Im worried the power keeps flickering! Wishing I had a genorator forget the fridge save the chicks!!!
