This is my first time hatching in incubator. Lockdown today. I see where some of you put eggs in carton to hatch and some just set them in incubator. Is there a benefit two one way or other? Mike

I put mine in paper egg cartons to help keep the eggs stable as the chicks start hatching out. I've done it both ways though so I'm not sure which is better. Right now my hatch rate is awful but I don't believe it is due to the egg cartons.

I have hatched both in cartons and on the wire bottom. It seems to be easier for the chick if it pips and zips on the right end of the egg to hatch from the carton. When they are on the wire bottom, they seem to just roll all over the place and get tired easier. Also when they start to hatch the hatched chicks play kickball with the unhatched eggs. When they are in the cartons they will sometimes peck on the other egg, but I think that could be a good thing. "Hello, anybody home?"
