Lockdown: Beginning of day 18 or day 19?

If your water wells are filled adding more water will not do anything as humidity is produced by surface area of water and not depth. I use wet sponges in mine. I just slide the lid up pop it on the screen floor. It's also handy if you don't want to open the bator and the sponge is under the vent you can just tube it in the vent.
I have it exactly at 65% with the vent hole covered. Hoping it retains humidity at that percentage. I'll add water, when necessary to make sure it doesn't go below 55%. I'll keep the sponge idea in mind, however the shelf liner should hold some moisture.

I hear some eggs hatching day 24, even 25. I have still a egg waiting to hatch, today is day 22, did candling/water candling with no results, I am discarding tomorrow

So glad I found this. Been having an internal debate on whether or not it is the beginning of day 18, or beginning of day 19... Thank you OP for asking.

For clarity.... If I set eggs yesterday around 5pm (April 8th), then lockdown would be begin no sooner than 5pm on April 26th. Maybe a 12 hour window after that time frame correct?

Thanks!

Early that evening or next morning, that way you can make sure you have the correct humidity and make adjustments if not.

Sunday the 26th at 5 pm would start your day 18. It really doesn't matter wether you start lockdown early on day 18 or late on day 18 (or early on day 19 for that matter) as long as you have that humidity up when they begin to pip.

Just remember that your first day constitutes day 0 for 24 hrs past the set time. It is important to get your humidity at the right mark (60 - 70%) before putting your eggs in for lockdown. The advice from this thread gave me a great hatch at 85% (30/35). Goodluck on the hatch and get them in lockdown before the chicks get pippin'.
