Lockdown - CLEAR EGGS?

I'm leaving them all. I have 4 that I've seen move. 3 that are completely dark except for the air cell and 5 that are clear.
I started the eggs on March 4th for a 25th hatch date. Do I start lockdown now or tomorrow?
I was told by a farmer today that I was supposed to turn the incubator off. That makes NO sense to me. I leave it on, right?

oh my gosh yes! leave the incubator on! and do u know about humidity levels (65% ish during lockdown) i've heard that lockdown starts on day 18 (this is my 1st hatch). i set my eggs on march 10th at 7pm. so my hatch date is march 31st and my lockdown day is march 28th.

Yes, leave it on. I wonder what he was thinking about??? I'm too fuzzy to do the math right now--didn't sleep last night so just got done sneaking a 2-hr nap, hard to wake up from, but will get me thru dinner and homework with the kids. I think today for lock down unless you set them in the evening and then that would be tomorrow...I think

Ok, so lockdown begins.

I'm not sure of the humidity... unfortunately I have been told NADA about hatching eggs. I was given the incubator at 12pm and the eggs at 2pm on the 4th. Humidity was not even an idea/issue on the horizon until I got on here today. So my plan is to fill the troughs of the incubator and pray!

I think the farmer was thinking about stopping the turner. He has that. I don't. We've been hand turning for 2.5 weeks.

This is scary! I'm going to have 28 disappointed students and 2 disappointed kids of my own if these little guys don't hatch.

don't feel bad, you've been given wrong information, it's not your fault. what's funny, is i JUST spoke to a teacher today who also had wrong information.....as a matter of fact if you check out the topic "interesting way to incubate" you'll see what i wrote. i wish i had told more info to the teacher today......

If necessary after some have hatched or not, bring in a few chicks the next morning (from the feed store) and put them in before the kids come to class, they'll think they hatched overnight...which happens all the time

Sneaky idea, I like the way you think. But on the other hand, if the kids are old enough to understand then I think they need to learn what happens and why, or why not. Try and try again. It is really a good learning experience and a good way to study science and the method that goes into a good experiment, even when they don't hatch.

good point about the age...One thought is that they will learn the lessons you mention (and I agree they are good ones) with the ones that don't hatch, so a few little fluffy butts could be a good balance.
