lockdown day count question

Yes I hear it chirp chirp ..I read it can take 24 hours for it to break through? ....one is further long the others are slight cracks in the shell.

Yes it sure can take them that long. They have a lot to do prior to hatch, absorb the yolk and blood vessels and they also rest a lot as its very hard work for them.
Some are less than 24 hours others can take that long. Each chick is individual and will hatch when they are prepared and ready.

I'm scared because I did open the hatch twice..I read from another post that put them in egg carton and they won't move around...but then I saw when it started cracking not on top I didn't want the egg carton to be in the way so I moved a couple sideways (away from the crack gently) so it could hatch... I know I shouldn't have, but at least I will have one...and when I find my Roo doing the deed again I can gather more eggs... Even tho I opened it, that one I can still hear a chirp periodically. I have watched the temp and made sure the humidty is closer to 70%. Anxiety X50 LOL First time is not fun when you don't know if you're doing it right etc.

Opening can cause a drop in humidity which could result in chicks being shrink wrapped but that's not a definite. Some open a lot during hatch and have no ill affects at all. Everyone has different opinions on this but for me once it's shut its shut, I just like it that way.

Did you cut your egg cartons down? I use both methods of hatching and have had good results with both. Cartons do stop hatched chicks from knocking other eggs about but then again they can also sit on top of eggs that are trying to hatch. Either way it can become quite rough in there once hatch is underway.

This was a small hatch I did and the last egg was mutt and last to hatch but all the polish had hatched so I opened to remove the hatched. That last egg hatched fine even though I had opened the incubator and it was pipped too. Opening is a risk, there is no way to tell for sure that it will shrink wrap anything so try not to worry :hugs

I shoot for 65% at hatch. This suits me and my incubator. If your at 70% that sounds ok when someone hatches this can cause a spike and I've hit nearly 90% when a few have hatched all at once. Prolonged high humidity can cause chicks to drown when they internally pip into the air sac. But at 70% I think you should be fine.

I can see the black fur from part of the crack opening and see it pulsating(breathing?) How long should that go before I need to do something so it doesn't die?
