Lockdown in 2 days

Aww! I love births! We raise cattle and sheep. This will be my first time with baby chicks unless you count the babies I ordered from cackle last year. I think the next 4 days are going to the longest ever!

I set 25 eggs. 23 will make it to lockdown as far as I can tell from candling. I'm using the brinsea eco 20. Today is lockdown. I went ahead and laid the eggs on their side. There sure isn't much room with the eggs and the hygrometer /thermometer in there. Not sure how I will get a sponge to set in there as well.

Had anyone tried covering the very bottom with foil and adding water to get to the 70% humidity?

If your Brinsea is set up like my lil one then it has two water wells. One you fill day 1-18. The next you fill day 18-hatch ....so, they both are filled.

If your humidity is too high it's the surface area that is too large. Some people have used crayons or marbles in their wells to take up space. Just make sure the well cover is on. The sponge is just added to the incubator floor as an extra to get humidity up if needed.

I have the mini adv. I just let it do its thing. I know the instructions are very basic.

Good luck... Keep us in the loop!!!

I live up north. Having a hard time getting humidity to rise.(currently 58%) Incubator is on lockdown. Both water wells are completely filled, shelf liner in, sponge in and vent fully open...now to survive the next 3 days.

Do you have a way to keep the sponge wet?
I am in CNY...wicked dry here and my wood stove doesn't help. Try using a humidifier in your room. I boil water for mine bc I was running them on the kitchen counter...

Any chance your hygrometer is off?

Not sure. I haven't tested it but it's been cold here so heater had been running and to stablize room temp, I have a radiant heater going in that room. No humidifier and it would be a two hr drive to get one.
