Lockdown in 2 days

Ok. By 11 pm, I had 3 babies. By 2 am I have 6 babies. There was one zipping and another shell top had covered the top of the one zipping. I chose to leave and see how it was today. Woke up at 6 am to that one having made it out along with 9 others! For a total of 16 babies. I had to take them out I'd the brinsea as there was NO room for anything else to hatch. I couldn't even see the unhatched eggs. So I grabbed a hot sponge and proceeded to switch the sponge for the babies even though I really didn't want to open it.

Humidity stayed at 75% wit the sponge and I can now see I have 7 eggs left. I think about 5 of them have pips. I hope they will make it.

I know you have to be pretty exhausted and totally stoked!

Good thinking on the new hot wet sponge. Old timers mist the sides with a spray bottle. I think the Brinsea is a lot more forgiving though.

The little guy with his shell...is his yolk absorbed? If it's not you may want to put him in a shallow mug and keep him away from the stampede & throw a layer of paper towels on top of the pine shavings for sanitary purposes and also to make sure they learn to eat feed first. I just wanted to make sure he wasn't going to shrink wrap since he was almost out. Once he got out of his shell, I slipped him back in the incubator to dry off.

I can see inside one of the pips, one baby is currently still alive in the 7 eggs left. Do I continue to leave them alone? Hoping the one baby in there with them will encourage the rest to pip.

Right now the count is,

25 eggs went in.
1 blood ring
1 early death day 7-9
23 made it to lockdown
By day 20 six chicks hatched
by morning of day 21- 16 chicks had hatched.
7 eggs left and appx 5 have pips.

Not that this is your case by any means. But I had about 5 eggs that pipped, one that hatched, and one that zipped but didn't make it! From what I have read, it is possible that they were just too weak or have some other sort of problem. I was absolutely devastated. A good friend of mine is a breeder for 4-h and has been incubating eggs for YEARS. She told me that this time of the year it is the time that you will get a lower hatch rate. It sucks and is hard to take them out and check them. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to leave them for a couple of days. The upside is that you have some baby chickies!

You are having an awesome hatch! Congratulations. I wanted to tell you and Purpletie what is happening with me since I am a few days ahead. Yesterday was day 23. No action since late day 22. When I got home from work last night, I was going to break the bator down and clean it for Friday. I unplugged it, took the lid off, and started to take out the eggs that didn't hatch. One was pipped with an air hole where I couldn't see it! I quickly put the cover back on and got it up and running again, but I'm afraid I may have shrink wrapped it. It was barely moving by the time I went to bed. This morning it appears to have died, but another is pipped to the point of an air hole and looks to be behaving normally. This is day 24. I worry about the health of chicks with such late hatches, but I can't toss an egg with something alive inside of it. My Polish that hatched late on day 22 wound up as a spraddle leg, so I've already had to strap her. Yours seem to be cruising right along, though. Great job!

Thanks for the heads up! Sorry that you had one die. How many eggs do you have left?

Another one hatched. That makes 17. 1 is zipping and 3 of the other 5 have pips.
