We just started Day 17, and the two eggs I have in there have active embryos. My temps have been running oh-so-slightly high for the entire incubation process - 101 degrees. Should I go on lockdown a day early in case they hatch early, or can I just wait until Sunday? Thanks.

Yikes, I think that it too high!!! I think that can maybe kill them...from what Ive heard...but not sure, hopefully someone will come in and help with more experience....Im on my first hatching...going good, Ive kept my temps at 98-99 at highgest, not even 99.5 like they say.

good luck.

No i would just stay with your original plan. Just because your thermometer reads high doesn't mean it is. The best thing to do is time the hatch of your eggs right down to the hour and your goal should be finished hatching at the end of 21 days not starting to hatch but finished. This way you can tell if your thermometer is correct. Sadly it has been my experience that most are not and that is why thew hatches will tell you everything you need to know.

Cheryl...Hows your hatching coming along???? My temp is holding at 99 but this a.m I looked at my humidity and its dropped to 47% I have two that have been zipping since yesterday morning, am afraid my shells will dry ....wondering if anyone knows about mositing the eggs or helping them, when too????

I have so far a total of 11 hatched....still no RIRs at all...not even cracks...and 1 cuckoo maran out of 5....one hatched only so far. My buffs were popping open like popcorn!!!! but still have more of them to go.

You can mist them a bit with a spray bottle, if need be, if a long time has passed and you hear no sounds, see no movement, etc etc. Have any sponges you can squeeze in there? How long was the humidity down? Check out the sticky thread on helping. I myself have done it, with bad results. I am partial to not helping - if the chick is to make it, they will make it on their own. However, I know of MANY people who have assisted, and their birds have ended up just fine!

Not on lockdown yet, myself... we are early tomorrow morning. I think my two little ones will hatch early, but they could keep me waiting!

....how many days do you give them, do you know??? My due date was Aug 7th, the buffs started popping Aug 5th...and so far no more hatching other than the 2 that are stuck on that zip part...no others show any signs as of yet...know I still have all today for it to be 22 days.....

Leave them in there until the 25th day... late-hatchers are more common than you (or I!) might think!

Honey had this bright idea, lets get a few chickens so we can have fresh eggs...we bought 17 pullets, then someone had to get rid of Porcelin D'Uccle roos, of course I said there pretty I want them there free...so we got them, kept them seperate from the rest for 2wks where they could see each other. let them loose after two wks...they didnt get along so honey built a quick emergency mini coop for them and there still there, nice size.
Then my father in law comes to visit I said look at my beautiful roos, he kept looking to the wrong side of the run! I said no Pa over there those 3...he said ok, and these too...I said no pa those are my hens..he said if you want to call them that ok..but there roos also...WHAT!!!! NO WAY!!!

I looked and sure enough they had this huge comb...How did I miss them?
Im new to chickens for one, for 2 the 3 I was knowing were Roos kept crowing NON STOP!!! the others NEVER CROWED...and Ive had chickens now for 26wks...and they just NOW started to crow!!!! so I ended up with 7 Roo in my run~~and 10 hens. All of a sudden BOOM...every roos wanted to get mated!!! it became hetic, bad, so we had to make another emgerency coop...so until then, we put them in large wired dog kennels...2 and 2...they all grew up together. So honey finally got off...and made a small coop behind the Main coop thats where I decided to add on. Honey says...ADD ON? why, I said "more chickens" MORE!!!!! OH HONEY...

So makes the coop, we place 2 roos in there, go to the next kennel to put the other two and heck broke loose!!! THEY ARENT GETTING ALONG, BIG FIGHTS...so Now I have 2 roos in the new kennel, and 2 still in a large dog kennel!!!!

here we are 3 coops later 26wks..and 2 roos in large dog kennels in need of another coop and BABIES HATCHING...

hONEY WAS HAMMERING AND KEPT SAYING: ALL I WANTED WAS SOME FRESH EGGS FOR BREAKFAST, OUR OWN EGGS, AND TO EAT...*hammer hammer hammer* and then sighs....IM HOOKED!!!!!
