Please tell me I didn’t mess this up too much?! I thought I had reads that lock down should be day 25....now I’m reading day 23....today is day 24 and I turned them 2xs today (I hand turn) and was going to stop turning them and lock down in the morning. I just open the incubator to add water and a sponge and I did hear chirping so I’m really hoping I didn’t mess them up?!?!

I think you’re fine. Honest mistake. What are you hatching?

ETA: just realized you’re hatching guineas. How exciting!!

Yes sadly my flock of 15 is down to 5. So I’m hoping to have a good batch! They had just started laying and I found their nest just in time. I was able to get 22 eggs before they moved it due to a raccoon getting their eggs. I had one of my six get hit by a car last week and I believe their new nest is down deep under down trees in a small, thick ravine. I’ve seen them coming and going from it and recently one has not been roosting with the others at night, although do they sometimes take turns on the nest?!? I have pearl and lavender and it seems alternating between who’s missing.

I would think that’s what they’re doing.
I started off with 18 keets and now I only have 6 adults and sadly all males. Debating on buying keets or buying guineafowl eggs to hatch my own.

You are doing fine. I don't lockdown until day 25. Others go into lockdown earlier. You can quit turning them without any harm being done anytime during the last 10 days. The critical part about turning the eggs is the first part of the incubation. By the last ten days, the keets are moving around enough on their own that turning is not that important.

Going into lockdown later is not a problem either. @PeepsCA would not move her guinea eggs from the incubator to her hatcher until they were internally pipped which means she might not be moving some of them to lockdown until as late as day 26 or 27. I have on a rare occasion had an externally pipped egg when I moved it to the hatcher on day 25. They did fine.

I have 2 external PIPs!!!! 🤞🏻 Happy Mother’s Day to me :)

So one hatched about 6 hours ago and still nothing from the other that PIPed sometime early this morning. Should I be worried yet? I have a 3rd that PIPed this evening.
How exciting! I had a Mother’s Day hatch today too - BCM and OEs!!! I wouldn’t worry about your morning pipped guinea until tomorrow morning...
