Still going! 7/20 so far. What was your hatch rate?
This is a great guide to assisted hatching!Im pretty sure this is my 2nd one that pipped yesterday morning. It’s still not hatched but I can see some movement through the membrane. I have several others that have pipped today but not hatched yet so I don’t want to open the incubator and I’ve never assisted a hatch. If it’s still moving is it still probably okay?! @R2elk @PeepsCA
If an egg has been pipped for more than 24 hours without any progress, I assist. In my situation that means that the hatchling is probably shrink wrapped. I have some needle sharp tweezers that I use to "zip" the shell. If any blood is encountered, stop immediately because it is too soon to help.Im pretty sure this is my 2nd one that pipped yesterday morning. Do you make the hole with a screw first? Or just start with the tweezers and zipping? If an egg has been pipped for more than 24 hours without any progress, I assist. I pop the cap off of the egg. If the hatchling is shrink wrapped, coconut oil does an excellent job of loosening the membrane. Once freedom of movement is restored, I return the egg to the hatcher and allow the hatchling to finish hatching on its own.
I just grabbed it and it started chirping really loud and it looks like there’s an open slit in the membrane. Should I give it awhile longer?Do you make the hole with a screw first? Or just start with the tweezers and zipping?

Check to see if the membrane is still soft or if it is drying out. If it is still soft, leave it be. If it is drying out, carefully assist.I just grabbed it and it started chirping really loud and it looks like there’s an open slit in the membrane. Should I give it awhile longer?
I got the top off without a problem. This is how it is now, still moving and chirping. I put it back in the incubator....how long do I give it before starting to take rest of the shell off and the membrane??Check to see if the membrane is still soft or if it is drying out.
