Yesterday was day 18 and I locked down the incubator. At noon today I heard chirping and went running. Would you believe this chick had hatched and 2 more have pipped out of 17 eggs. What happened? Also notice the pink legs, can I assume my EE roo is not the father? My only other roos are BLRW.

Adorable. If you figure out why they hatched so early, let us know.

Yup my last hatch did the same thing. started hatching on day 19 and by day 21 they we're all hatched out! 23 BLRWs and one mutt. They are all healthy and fine! I kept my bator at 99.6° and 38-45% humidity. Then on day 18 I uped the humidity to 60%. Not sure why mine did hatch early.
But that baby looks like a BLRW cross to me!

My temps and humidity were the same as yours. Just checked and I have another pip! That's 3 so far. Gonna be a long night.

Congrats!!

I too am going to likely get a chick or two tonight, and I'm on day 19. . . Earliest I've had a chick so far.

I believe early hatches are often because of the temp being quite high. But if your incubator is pretty well regulated in temps like mine, just may be the chicks' eagerness and strength . . . ?

Update on the first post-Of the 17 eggs I set, 15 chicks hatched. Most on day 19 and 20 with only 1 on the 21st day. I have quite a mix of colors and 4 have feathered legs. I do have 2 full-size Partridge Cochins.
