Hello my coop has a run for the chickens when I'm at work but of a evening when they go into there coop should I close the door every night , do they need this to feel secure ? Or am I just being to protective over them

Unless your run is totally predator- proof, I would close the door every night. Even if it was, I would probably close it anyway. But perhaps I am being overly protective as well :P

The chickens don't care if the door is shut or not. The will care if a predator gets in, that's the reason to do it. I have dogs that patrol for me, so I don't actually have a door between my coop and run, just an opening so they come and go at will.

Yea they should be on as I have put them on a flagstone babe with dirt on top about three inches so nothing will be able to dig under it
