The best thing to do would be to get some chicks to keep it company. If you can't get chicks, try a stuffed animal, and maybe a mirror. You will need to spend a lot of time keeping it company.I only had one chick survive out of my last batch. What do I need to do so that he doesn’t feel so lonely? Will he be ok?
Can I put one of my adult hens with him?The best thing to do would be to get some chicks to keep it company. If you can't get chicks, try a stuffed animal, and maybe a mirror. You will need to spend a lot of time keeping it company.
I wouldn't. Adults are likely to kill the lone chick either on purpose or accidentally. Is there a hatchery or someone on craigslist where you can get a few more chicks? Can I put one of my adult hens with him?
I have some more in the incubator but they still have a week and a half before they’ll hatch.I wouldn't. Adults are likely to kill the lone chick either on purpose or accidentally. Is there a hatchery or someone on craigslist where you can get a few more chicks?
Thanks! I think I found someone with chicks.I would see if you can find at least one more chick to keep your loner company. It might be okay for the next couple of weeks, but by the time your current eggs hatch, it's going to be significantly larger than the new chicks and might have problems moving in with them.
In the meantime give it a lot of attention and company.
Congratulations! Your little lonely one is probably a lot quieter now.Just an update, got him 7 brothers and sisters. Most are slightly smaller than him (didn’t want him to get picked on) and a few are about the same size. He was scared of them at first but then eventually snuggled in with them.
