My son's teacher hatched out quail in March and used my incubator. Well I ended up taking the incubator home with the unhatched eggs and well lo and behold out hatched another 13 chicks. I gave 12 of them back to the teacher to put in with his 12 that hatched at school and ended up keeping one of them because it was born with horrible spraddle legs. Well we fixed the little thing and he walks just great but is a little smaller than the others due to a rough beginning. So needless to say we are now raising this lone quail because it thinks we are its parents and it is very humanized now and will just cuddle up with us. We don't have anywhere to keep the little guy as our chicken run is not enclosed with a roof due to amount of trees and my extra coops are occupied with a broody mama and her babies. We would like to let him just go in the chicken run but don't know if he would fly away or what he will do. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do with the little guy, he is 3 weeks old so we figure we have a couple more weeks to make the final decision. Any help would be appreciated. By the way we do have 5 acres behind us that is mostly cleared but has some trees and lots of heavily wooded parks around us.
