I would like to introduce a new hen to my rooster, who just lost his mate. How do I do this, I am not sure what his reaction will be. Have only had 2 chickens for awhile, and hen died 2 weeks ago, rooster is gentle.
And welcome to BYC. Personally, I would consider getting a few pullets, rather than a single bird to reduce the chances of over-mating. Take a look at the following link on space requirements before proceeding - Space requirements.
I’ve never had any issues introducing new pullets to a cock bird, but keeping them in the coop, but separate from the cockbird for a coup of days is no bad thing.

Definitely consider 2 or three pullets of breeding age (they are actively laying) vs. just a single hen for your rooster. Quarantine for a month to ensure they are disease free before introducing to your rooster. Good luck.
