I'm planning on getting a flock of 4 or 5 silkies, and currently my local feed store is all sold out on silkie chicks, and they do restock every Thursday, but it's not guaranteed there will be silkies. It's late summer, so there aren't very many. However, on craiglist, there is somebody close by looking to rehome a 3 month old silkie rooster for free. I emailed the owner and I'm waiting for the reply. I have a great place for him and he will get lots of space, love and attention, but I'm concerned that the rooster will be lonely without any hens. I do plan on getting chicks (hatching eggs or buying live chicks) but they are so popular, I will probably have to wait a few months if I go for hatching eggs, and an unknown period of time for live chicks. And they will be different ages, so I will have to keep them separate. So in the meantime, if I do get the rooster, he will be alone for a while, but I will give him lots of attention. Will he be ok without any other chickens?

My first chicken was a bantam frizzled cochin roo from the rehoming cage at the feed store! He was lonely (but loved) for a while but that just made him all the more accepting of "his" chicks when I got my first bunch of feed store babies.

Aww, how cute!

Maybe by the time you have the chicks he’ll have developed good manners , should be ok if he has you , might not be happy alone

Thanks for the replies! Sadly and happily, the rooster was already going home with somebody. I was surprised how quickly he was taken, the ad was posted less than 4 hours, but I'm kinda glad now. It certainly makes things less complicated. Now I decided I'm going to get an incubator and hatch my own fluffies!
