I'm planning on getting a flock of 4 or 5 silkies, and currently my local feed store is all sold out on silkie chicks, and they do restock every Thursday, but it's not guaranteed there will be silkies. It's late summer, so there aren't very many. However, on craiglist, there is somebody close by looking to rehome a 3 month old silkie rooster for free. I emailed the owner and I'm waiting for the reply. I have a great place for him and he will get lots of space, love and attention, but I'm concerned that the rooster will be lonely without any hens. I do plan on getting chicks (hatching eggs or buying live chicks) but they are so popular, I will probably have to wait a few months if I go for hatching eggs, and an unknown period of time for live chicks. And they will be different ages, so I will have to keep them separate. So in the meantime, if I do get the rooster, he will be alone for a while, but I will give him lots of attention. Will he be ok without any other chickens?
