Issue:

New chick helped out of the shell about 12 hrs ago. The only one who hatched. It's peeping non stop in the warm brooder, staying away from the feather duster. Will ONLY hush when balled up between cupped hands or cradled in a hand with the feather duster on top.

Suggestions?

Is it full dry? You should have left it in the incubator for a bit longer. How warm is the brooder? Try putting a mirror in that might help.

he's lonely....i had a lone chick last year.....i had to have her with me as much as possible. it's good you have a feather duster.....a mirror may also help. but when i had my lone chick, i would get a towel and put it across my chest and have the chick with me when i watched tv....but she would always snuggle up around my neck and get into my hair and make the sweetest peeping noises! good luck! if you can possibly find it a friend, that would be ideal.
