Lonely Widow Duck

Just bought a farm in NC Mountains and seems I inherited 2 ducks.. Well they kinda come and go. I have been feeding them and giving them water but the drake went missing this morning. I found feathers so not a good sigh. Little white duck now all by herself. I found 8 white eggs in a bin by the barn, but they could be the neighbors chickens eggs (??) What to do any ideas. She now staying by my front porch sleeping by the tree and seems to be afraid to go else where. Do I give her a little house by the porch and feed her there? Im a worried duck mommy i guess. So sad

Very sorry about the drake. Your lil female has every right to be afraid she needs to have a secure house and or run to be in when you can't watch her and for night time. Ducks and poultry in general are high on the menu for preds. A house inside a run that can be locked and the top of the run covered so nothing can climb in. As for the eggs you could try to incubate if chickens pop out you'll have the beginning of your own lil flock If ducklings again you'll have the beginnings of your own lil flock. Both are great additions to a farm.

Do you have any chickens? she will socialise with them. If you want her protected do as the others have said, they are easy prey for nearly any predator. I have lost 5 of 8 ducklings to hawks, 2 at a time for 2 days. They now are in lockdown in large chicken yard with deterrent above 7 foot fence. These are fair sized ducklings now, has been a costly mistake (ordered sexed females) and a lesson on my part.
