Sorry of the reply delay, I was reading through a thread in RR that got closed. I like reading closed threads, because the debates usually get pretty intense and it's quite entertaining seeing things grow more heated.... of course, its not fun when I'm actually involved in an argument, so I try to stay out of those things and just lurk

She's getting me a present?

How's she going to do that, it's not likely she's going to send something to Australia!

Ground affect is... and darn my stupid memory that doesen't remember the exact distance... but its some amount of feet off the ground... A flying thing, plane, whatever... has more lift under the wings than it would up in the air.
Thus, you can take off at a lower speed than your plane would really be flying at... and keep the plane down inside of ground affect near the runway until the speed comes up to a level your plane would fly at above that level.

Its a Phenomena. Spelling?


I still have all of my old training books... If they didn't weigh a ton I would ship them over to you... but no, that would cost a fortune.


Of course, if the guy in the movie had taken off in ground affect and stayed in it, he couldn't have done so for long since the ground fell out from under them

... but I think it would have served well for the few minutes the ground was just cracking up....
