Yeah you should have seen her with Grasshoppers!
Ooo theres a half a grassopper swallowed.. and the other half still trying to swim away
The feeders were those 'Rosettes' whatever those are... they looked like tiny, plain goldfish with a red hue. a dozen for 99 cents
Only the darn things had the nerve to swim away from her highness and hide under her basking rock she was getting to big to swim under!
Poor Shelley. Mom found her for me on a construction site when I was 11 or so... she was the size of a quarter maybe... I remember how she only took up a small area in the bottom of the styrofoam coffee cup mom handed her to me in (she had been running across a housing site with a bulldozer about to level the area she was in) ...
anyway... I had for 6-7 years and she got to be 4 1/2 inches in diameter. I spent a loooong time looking up her species... because she didnt fit anything common. Turns out she was a rare Pseudemys Floridana Hoyi ( I still remember how to spell it! Woo hoo!) and she would have grown to about 12 inches in diameter at 15 years old or so.
But poor dear... she moved everywhere with us and lived through a lot. She didn't much appreciate Idaho winter though
I dont think a Florida native turtly was ever meant to be frozen.
I still feel like I murdered her
Have you ever felt that way about an animal you lost?
