Long term ant repellent that won't harm chickens?

I’ll keep my birds up for a couple days and put this stuff called surrender on the mounds. After a couple days I basically just turn the mounds over and stomp it back down. It a been workin for me but If I saw the chickens scratching around in there I’d prolly try to figure something else out.

What is surrender and where do you buy it?

Ive killed other ants by soaking the mound with Demon WP, but I'm not sure if it would work on fire ants. I've always used Amdro for them, keep chickens locked up for about a week, then turn the Amdro under before letting the birds free range again.

Ah, makes sense. The ants are dead when you turn the nest and chemicsls over with a shovel. I missed that part!

No Prolly not, that’s why I said I put the birds up a couple days and turn the mound after

Thank you, I did see that. I guess my concern is that, even with the mound turned over, could the chickens scratching and pecking get them into it? I know they can get pretty aggressive with their excavating. But apparently you've had no issues with what you're doing.

I'm in Texas and the fire ants are horrible here. I even get them in the runs on occasion. I have had a chick die from them during hatch. I felt horrible for the poor thing as I've often had blister from them myself.
I can't get rid of them permanently but when I have a hen hatching chicks now I put permethrin powder around the base of the brooder. I use hot water sometimes in the chicken yard which is a fenced off acre or so.
We use Ortho on the rest of the yard and property. They just seem to move from one spot to another.
My dad blamed them from everything from the disappearance of the horned toads, giant grasshoppers, and green snakes in East Texas to climate change. He thought they were trying to take over the world. Lol.
If you find something that kills them off let us know.
