Long-term substrate?

My disabled chicken is an inside chicken and lives on wood shavings. My main problem with them is that they get everywhere when I take her out. I’ve tried Astroturf but she can’t get any traction on it. Any suggestions for a grippy, long-term-suitable substrate?

You might take a look at reptile bedding. Someone on here uses coconut husk chips, which are sometimes sold for reptiles and are heavier.

If you don't already have one, you might also consider a small handheld vacuum like this. I just purchased one as I'm incapable of keeping the chopped straw out of the house, despite having separate chicken boots. Love it!

Thanks for the advice! I have a pet snake and it would definitely be easier to buy the same substrate for both of them.
