im not really new to chickens as they have always been in my life, my aunt has always been one to be a lover of poultry, recently when i asked my soon to be 5 year old daughter what she wanted to get her grand father for easter she said little chicks.. so we ordered him some EEs that are our "chickens" now or chickies as my daughter calls them.

currently we have 7 EE hens, and 1 roo. but my father has buff orpingtons, and heavy production reds along with some rhode island reds. currently raising some broilers for my aunt.

i found byc because i wanted to gawk and make a choice on my dads easter "gift" which cam late so i guess its easter/fathers day

my other hobbies... gardening and cooking, i used to be a cook and am the daughter of a farmer so the chickens came naturally though i still miss working with the calves. before i was a cook i was a butcher.. so being a cook was second nature and gave me quite a connection to the land and animals.

my family, i have 2 aging parents, an active duty army husband who will be out of the service by august, a young 5 yr old daughter and a 8 month old son, i have relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis which keeps me from my old job, but im hoping my "chickies" give me a stress outlet to help.. chickens cant judge me

, i also have 2 house cats, robert (full black) and sid ( silver rosette bengal).

i would be happy to trade mutt eggs or specifically looking for welsummer/ maran hatching eggs; my mother has professed that she wants heavy gold wyandotte...

Hello and welcome....so glad you joined BYC

A special thank you to your husband for his role in protecting our beautiful country

well coming from a family that has traditionally been heavy in military service. we should thank all of you for the great support. that being said "chickies" are definitely good therapy. the EE's we sent my father are on their 2nd day in his "i love these chickens" box the one that sits right next to his chair.
this morning when he called us to report all is well except that he lost a broiler in the night and is down to 50 out of 51.. my daughter grabbed the phone from my hand and the convo went like this: DD: papa you get my chickens? they still peepin? PP: yes i have your funny chickens and yes they are peepin. DD: papa can i keep a chicken? PP: yes what kind do you want? DD: i want a GIRL one papa... i like eggs they taste yummy.

ahh life with young children and chickens
