Welcome!! You do know that chickens are the gateway drug to farming, right?!

Oh, and it's highly addictive. Something like chicken math begins to happen.

Welcome to the community of unashamed poultry addicts. ;)
Yes you are correct...I have battled chicken math a few times. Some I won and some I did not :( I went to the co-op last week for feed and prayed they didn't have chickies yet...whew, got thru that....Then went out to the coop to clean up, fill feeder and talk with the ladies. Oh and what did my eyes see.....4 beautiful white eggs. Mind you I only have 1 white layer "Butters" my scilian buttercup. She is 3 years old and had not given me an egg since early summer. She is what my husband calls our "honor system chicken"
Even though their huge run's are fenced and netted she always finds a way out to check out greener pastures. She has survived 2 dog attacks , a coyote, and being grabbed by an eagle. Like a cat with 9 lives. Anyways back to the eggs....I thought oh my maybe I should pop these in the baton, after all she is not a spring chicken anymore and her living on the wild side will eventually turn out badly. Why wouldn't I want to carry on her disobedient, crazy blood lines :) Because I love her to pieces, even with all the troubles and nights in the chicken hospital in my bedroom, she is the best..she comes when I call her name, always begrudgingly let's me shove her tiny butt back in the safe zone, and is just cute. I safely put the 4 eggs off to the side and told the kid.....do not eat the white ones!
So now I plan how to ask the husband if I can bring more chickies into this world. I plead my case that she is getting older, is a wild side lover and oh how cute they might be.
Chicken Math and I lost this battle, we had white eggs for breakfast the next morning. Now don't cry for me.....none of them were fertile.......I have not lost....just delayed, I WILL have baby butters one day...

PS, thank you all for the kind welcome. You all don't know it but I have learned so much from you all and most likely help me save a few poultry lives. I will now join in to help others and if you don't mind , listening to my chickies chronicles (with lots of pictures.....shamefully I have more of them than my kids on my phone)
