I grew up in the city, big city Seattle and always thought that I was a city girl and would live in an apartment with lots of dead bolts.....life happens and I married a wonderful man who had a much more grounded upbringing. Fast forward to me living in a fairly rural community. I started gardening and canning and yearning for chickens.
Now I am not an egg fan or have I ever hunted for game. I just knew I wanted them. This was several years back when the mass exodus of chickens was happening due to the bird flu. I started learning on here just to get info but the yearning grew strong. We lived in a development that forbid them so I hung on and keep learning.
Finally 3.5 years ago we bought a house that had several acres and getting me some girls was hot on my list. Due to time constraints we went ahead and bought a prefabricated coop and I got busy...I started with 4 Rhode Island Red pullets. I have been thru a lot, loosing girls to predators, natural causes and normal chicken illness. Also did a batch of meat birds, getting ducklings, hatching them, naturally and with a bator, and several chick hatches. Lots of stories and hard times I have been thru. Just figured it was time to finally come out of the learking and really join, as all my hard times were made thru just reading and not connecting.

Greetings and welcome to BYC! So glad you finally jumped in & joined us. There's a wealth of info, knowledge and experience shared in the multitude of threads. Perhaps you can share some of your knowledge and experience to other's benefit. Sorry you've had such a hard time of it, but most of hat is just part of the journey. Browse around and see what interesting stuff you can find. By all means post away when the desire strikes you, especially if you have questions (provide as much detail/info as possible and pictures truly help)... With all the great folks here, generally someone will respond in no time at all. Please make yourself at home!

Oh, if you haven't done so already, PLEASE put at least your general location in your profile. It could be very important if/when you ask for or offer help or advice. You know, climate issues and such. I recommend at least your state as most folks won't be able to figure out where if you put anything more specific (county, town, street, etc) by itself. Old folks like me :old will never remember & look there first. To add it, mouse hover over Account top right and a drop down will appear. Click on Personal Details and scan down. You'll see the spot for Location. Then go to the bottom and save changes. Thanks! Hope you enjoy the site!
