First of all, I hope you all had a Merry Christmas.
My name is Jon, Irish Ridge is our farm name. I raise birds (chickens) and bees here on our farm. I finally broke down and signed up to the forum (obviously). I've been here off and on quite a bit, but never signed up. I filled out the new member questionnaire, I hope it will help. If anyone has questions, just ask.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
No, I've had chickens for about 6 years.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Right now I have bout 15-20 (I should really count them)
(3) What breeds do you have?
I think they are all mutts. Most come from Barred Rock, but there are a few Silver Laced Wyandottes, and one black hen and rooster (not sure of the breed). I had a Cochin Bantam that dissapeared. I really love the look of the Cochins.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
I think I found it in an internet search waaaaaay back when I got started and was looking for more information on raising chickens.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Beekeeping is a big hobby of mine. I also have a huge Lego collection (kinda geeky, I know), the kids just love. I am trying to learn more metalworking skills, I can cast aluminum. I love steam engines and am trying to get the time to fabricate one. My winter hobby is to try and learn Mandarin Chinese. So far so good, I even know how to ask for a glass or a bottle of beer. lol
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm currently 35, I have a wonderful wife and 3 kids, 2 boys, 1 girl. My little girl is the youngest. I'm looking forward to her starting kindergarden next year so I can finally get some peace and quiet. My youngest boy wants to help me with beekeeping this spring, so I'm trying to talk the wife into getting him the proper gear. I am looking into getting some day old Cochins this spring, the wife seems to be interested. She misses our little bantam Cochin too. I'm hoping to learn more about breeds and incubating here.
