Long time lurker, now officially a member!

WE
Hello, my name is Rachael. I'm from Texas but I spent a few years state hopping and now I'm located in Indiana. This is such a fantastic community and webpage, I used it as a reference all last year when I got my first 4 chickens and 3 ducks and was able to successively brood and raise them thanks to you guys! I figured it had been long enough so o decided to finally make an account so I could be a part of this great community. I've answered the template questions below but just hit me if you need anything! Thank you for being awesome!!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I got my first chickens and ducks last year in 2020. I got 4 Bovan Browns (ISA Browns?). We also rescued a male Mallard at 3 days old because he was all alone and got him 2 Pekin ducks to keep him company.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Right now I have 8 chickens, 5 ducks and 6 turkeys.

(3) What breeds do you have?
Chickens: I have 4 Bovan (ISA?) Browns and 4 Black Sex Links.
Ducks: 1 Mallard, 3 Pekin, 1 Khaki.
Turkey: 6 BBWhite

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
They are litterally the cutest little dorks. I love their antics. My year old brown chickens will get upset with me when I have to clean up their nests but they want it left exactly as is and will proceed to hide their eggs from me via laying them in my goats hay manger for about a week and then go back to their normal nest. So far my birds have been super friendly, super quirky and it's just been a pot of fun.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I crochet, wood burns, repair welders with a friend, farm, paint, play the flute. I just like doing anything and everything wether I do it well or not.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
All of my family are back down in Texas and Louisiana but I'm hoping the world will settle down enough for me to visit them this year.
Aside from the birds I also have 3 goats and my friends on the property (it's their property that I reside on) rescue cattle dogs via being a permanent home to 2 of them and are currently fostering a 3rd that will need a good bit of rehabilitation. Side note please dont get a large powerful dog if you cant follow through with training them properly. It's sad to see this new dog acting so erratic and fearful then excited and happy at every other thing that happens near him because the original owners wouldnt properly train him.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
I answered this above in my small intro but it's because this is a great community and I would like to (after a year of lurking) be a part of it.

Thank you for your time, have a great day!!
Welcome Rachael!!! Glad you decided to make the leap to joining this community! I was a stalker of this group for a bit too. Even if I don't have questions, I thoroughly enjoy reading some of the situations that come up with our feathered friends. And it is a small comfort to know that I'm not the only crazy chicken lady out there!
