Hi everyone.
I have been a reader of this site for a few years and new homesteader and organic grower for a couple years, mainly for my family. We have hunted and fished our land as well as planted vegetables our own apple and pear trees and have 2nd year grape vines which Should fruit this year 2020.

My first chicken endeavor was successful with the hatching and brooding but having them free range with our then dairy goats caused them to be taken by predators. Instead of losing more over winter we stopped and are now building a run attached to our mini barn for the chickens and hope to have a more successful second attempt this late winter early spring.

I will be posting pictures as the run construction begins hopefully later this month if I can carve out the ground to lay my 4x4s. I have a dedicated 8x12 mini barn built for them that will be separated in 2 6x8 rooms with feed, water and roosting poles as well as nesting boxes. The run will be 8x8 to 8x16 with a 7 ft height and enclosed wire top. Pending decent weather the chickens approx 15-20 will free roam during the day or when I am outside.

Thanks again and talk soon
Godspeed

:welcome

Thanks for coming out of lurker mode to join us! Free ranging has it's good and bad points as you've discovered. Just make the run as big as possible, the flock will appreciate the space.

Best wishes!
