Long time reader first time poster comical start

Hello everyone!
I have floated here for the last couple of years trying to plan here and there to be ready for chickens and ducks.
Well we acquired a piece of property that had an old 8x8 pump house with 2 10x12 wings. We have converted this to our coop.

This is where it gets comical. My wife is deathly afraid of birds, but she had committed to help raise chicks for eggs ect. She said she was good as long as we didnt have any roosters at first. So we ordered 10 barred rocks. Got them in and she did great raising them, loving them no issues. We have had them about 3 weeks and they are so funny. Well I stumble across the shipping box and a big sticker says cockerals.....
I go pull my shipping order and this guy managed to order 10 ROOSTERS!!!!
My wife's soul almost left her.
We have managed to pick up 5 Rhode island red pullets and looking for homes for the roosters and may keep 1. Either way it's been a interesting start. Now I need more info to make it simpler and to save cost in the long run.

Oh no! If you're willing, those barred rock cockerels could be processed for meat around 12-16 weeks. They won't be as meaty as a cornish cross, but they will be tender. Good luck with your flock!

If we are not able to sell/swap the roosters we may process them for meat. We have a friend that raises and processes them for meat not far from us.

Hello and welcome! chickens are wonderful, and hopefully this whole experience will change some of her fears into a passion because they truly are so fun to have.
