I have been reading backyard chickens for the past few months. We decided that we would like to do a few chickens in our yard, in Bountiful, Utah. We have about a quarter acre, with a large garden area. We are going to use a portion of the garden area for the chickens. I have built an 8x8 run (hoop house), with a 4x4 coop up off the ground to house our 4 chickens. I would possibly like to get up to 6 chickens, and feel like i have built enough room for that many. I will eventually post pictures, I am still working out the kinks. Well that's me, our chickens names are: Cluck Norris, Bernice, Clown-Eye (named by my four year old), and Chickee-Baby. We are all excited to be members.

Love the names of your chickens!! You may want to do some reading in our learning center. Lots of helpful articles on all the aspects of keeping poultry...

As for spaced needed for chickens, you will want 4 to 5 square feet per bird in the coop and 10 square feet per bird in the run or space you are keeping them. Here is a good article from our learning center on space requirements for chickens...
