I didn't read the whole thread, but I have to comment on this. Those dogs aren't made to stand for hours and hours. That is done for competition and there is a time limit. Intergroom (a large competition) has a time limit of 2.5 hours. Yes, that is a long time, but a standard poodle is a BIG dog. It can take over an hour just to shave one naked, nevermind do a nice groom on it. Show dogs probably take even longer to groom.

ETA: I used to groom professionally until I injured my back, so I have a point of reference.
