Did you ladies see the hint.... the chicks were in the bedroom, he wanted them out of there...lol.

I have chicks brooding in two different rooms of the house but not in anything fancy.

I was hoping to work on mine today, but it's pouring rain and I do all of my building outside.

Ladies, if they won't do it, why not learn to do it yourself? My husband has NO interest nor knowledge to build things. When I first got chicks, I was determined to make a nice place to keep them. So I went and bought the material and hoped it would be somewhat presentable. It was.

I've gotten more since then and gotten more brooders. My dad made me one large one for indoors which I've since passed on to a friend. My son was diagnosed with asthma last year so I was told by the doctor, no more chicks in the house. That is why I am making one now for the barn.

I will say when I first started, all I had for tools was a hammer, some nails and a hand saw.

It's way easier now that I have "real" tools like an electric saw, drill, etc. hehe

(*Disclaimer: I know some are not physically able to do that. I am headed there myself, but am a stubborn independant control freak so I keep plugging along for now.

I made the plan and he built it with his own tweaks It is 8' wide 4'deep we used clap board, strapping,plywood and chicken wire just had to buy the bins inside I was on him all weekend to get it done

Oh, if I build my own shelves, I will get yelled at for not executing the design he had envisioned and making boring straight shelves that merely hold laundry soap and houseplants, painted the same boring color as the woodwork. So I have a choice of a. doing it myself and listening to endless complaints about my lack of artistic skills or b. wait 18 months for three bloody shelves to be built.

It's a toss-up which is more annoying.
