look what got hit on the road near my house 15miles away

They do have a hunting season here. We have muzzle loader, rifle, and bow seasons. It doesn't begin to control the number of deer up here though. The state only issues so many doe permits and many landowners will let people take bucks if they are such a size. This year in particular was bad for hunting because it was too wet for farmers to get in the fields. Those deer had lots of corn standing to hide in. We also had cases of CWD (chronic wasting disease) increasing. We are the state of 10,000 lakes and a million sloughs which equate to lots of habitat for them. My little brother is in his 5th year of college for natural resources and has interned with the DNR for the last 3 summers.

Did you know that the DNR is also re-introducing wolves up here? Supposedly there are enough in the wild to be taken off the threatened species list. Same with cougars...they sure are awesome, but I don't want them in my backyard!

That is just a teenager, had it been full grown the officer is not tall enough to it hold up. In most cases it takes a couple of strong men to pick up a full grown male. They get BIG.

interesting. but what's with the guy smiling? poor animal lost its life to a car. geez

Ther ehave been reports of sightings in michigan over the past few years. DNR refuses to own up to it. Amish guys horse was attacked and nearly killed by one. vet said it was a big cat. DNR said it was barbed wire fence. Yeah OK, you would think there would be evidence of the fence. This thing attacked the neck and face of the horse, blinding it. Some guy in another county nearbye got a video of one walking through his yard. Was shown on the news. It was a cougar. DNR said it would take them a long time to determine if it really was a cougar. The detriot free press has been documenting them for years. if I remeber the one article right, they found evidence of them in the northern part of the lower p. DNR also denied that too.

And they killed one about a year ago in downtown chicago. Another state where they deny there is a cougar population. Felt bad for that poor cat. They didn't have a choice though.

wow.. thats a big cat... drive careful folks... wear seatbelts and watch out for drunk drivers and oxypoppers.... xoxox

You'd think the person who hit it would have had to stop? Maybe I missed that part.

I was wondering about the DNR thing too LOL! The do not resuscitate dead animals dept? Funny name.

Sad for the big guy.

I know in pa i don't believe there are any laws saying/stating you have to stop after hitting an animal, guess it would depend on the damages ones vehicle sustained after an impact with a critter..

I guess I was thinking it should have done some pretty good damage. But cats are pretty fleet of foot, could have felt like a bump but caused major damage to the cat I guess.
