Look what I found back in the coop tonight!!! Snake!!!

All right. That is it. As a snake-a-phobe, or whatever you call a person terrified of snakes, I humbly request that there be no more posts of finding snakes in the coop.

Please, please, please. If I see another post like this, I'll be too afraid to ever check for eggs again.

I know, I opened the post. I saw "Snake!!!" in the subject line and still looked. I'm curious. I had to see it.

Just, ewww, stop tempting me to look. Yuck!

P.S. Good idea to pick it up with long handled pruners. I think I'll keep the pruners next to the coop rather than in the garden shed.

Chicknjane, your post totally reminded me of something that happened to me...

As I child, the highlight of my day was helping my grandpa with his chickens and cows. From the time I was five, I went to his house every day to collect the eggs and put out the hay for the cows.

The nests were mounted on the rear of the hen house... way over my head. The hens loved the highest nest and there were usually five or more eggs in that nest. One afternoon, I reached way up into that top nest. Instead of eggs, I felt scales. The cold scales of a chicken snake.

I am proud to say that I was able to go back the next day to collect eggs. Not bad for a six-year-old girl, eh?

Not quite the snake-phobe you think you are .. Just give in to you natural curiosity and become an informed respecter of snakes and quit all that fear nonsense ...

Apparently, my 37-year-old husband isn't, either.

He's a city boy. I was raised on this farm. He's a Navy brat who grew up in Norfolk, Va. and on the island of Bermuda.

He's learned a lot in the 11 years we've had him in our family, though. I've gotta give him props for that. He's pulled calves, bottlefed goats, roofed barns and all sorts of other crazy jobs. He still hates snakes and spiders.
