Thank you for the inspiration!!!
I came the back way home from the grocery store on Sat. and there is a new taxidermy business that just opened. Out in their parking lot was a beautiful shipping crate....perfect for a brooder. I called them today and they said I could have it. A friend brought his truck and we picked it up. I haven't measured it but it's approx. 4' square by 2' high and the lid was there too.
I am now a huge fan of dumpster diving...
we have to modular home factories with in 20 miles of us. They both toss all there wood scraps in huge dumpsters. I planked the entire inside of our 16x24 barn floor to celing for free. As well as bring home al kinds of goodies to build chicken coops, dog coops and about anything else I can come up with. And its free you can never beat free.
Hope you post pics of your new little coop when you get it done. Can't wait to see it!
Soooooo, what did you do with that great find and where are the pictures???.....or maybe you're busy and that was you with the legs sticking out of the dumpster on the corner yesterday?!
I came across an old amourie (bad spelling) tossed out in an apartment complex, my son was mowinng hay near by so i talked him into picking it up for me, at the time i had an adopted iguana that needed more space so my dad and i built her an awesome condo.
Way to go on your find !!!! that is just to neat ........
something about plugging in the wrong cord. So by the time I get a new one I should have all of the alterations done and it will be picture worthy.
I measured it to be 5' x 4.5' x 2'. The 12 chicks I'm ordering should do very well in there for the 6 weeks. It came with the lid which I will fix up by reinforcing the frame & cutting out most of the plywood to fit with hardware cloth or some type of mesh, swing out doors.
I was going to do the rolled cardboard method but this thing is like the Hilton compared to my original plans
