LOOK WHAT I FOUND IN THE TREE !!!!!!!

That is one beautiful snake. I had a friend who had a corn snake once, it was an albino red one. Doesn't look big enough to eat your chicks though. My friends snake could only eat fuzzies at that size.

Heard a funny but true story from a couple that visited our home last night. The wife was asking if we have lots of snakes what with our river and pond and woods and all. And I said sure but they usually keep to the river and woods. She said that when she and her husband first moved to this area their home was surrounded by woods and weeds and she was terrified of snakes so refused to set foot outside. Her husband finally told her he had put snake poison everywhere and she wouldn't have to worry any more. Which she didn't. Till.....she went to a party and was telling a group of people that were talking about their fear of snakes that they should do like her husband did and "put snake poison everywhere". She said everyone burst out laughing but no one wanted to tell her there was no such thing as snake poison.

Ruth - that is a very funny story. I can not imagine being so afraid that I would not go outside. It must be tormenting.

Silkiechicken - It was a very pretty one. I have to admit I have always liked snakes. In fact I have three of them. One cornsnake that my son and I caught in the backyard when he was around 5 or 6, my son is almost 18 now so she is getting up there in age. I also have two rat snakes, one yellow rat snake and one Everglades rat snake, they were pet shop rescues. The big one is approx 5ft long. He had been at the shop for a long time and in a small tank. They all hated him and he bit every chance he got. They told me I could have him if I would just get him out of there, and I would have to catch him. Well, that was not a problem, I did not get bit. I have had him for 3 years and he has never tried to bite me. He doesn't like being held, but will settle down after a few minutes, but I don't hold him very often because he doesn't like it and why antagonize him. The other rat snake is a little smaller. He was just a hatchling at the pet store when I got him. They had a whole tank of different colored hatchlings, but they could not get this guy to eat and he was not doing very well. I kept mentioning him to the owner and offered to take him home and try to get him to eat. He said "You take him home and if you can get it to eat then keep it, we have tried everything and nothing works." I took him home, warmed him up, made sure he had no distractions and within 30 mins he had eaten. He's three feet long now. I am not looking for any more mouths to feed in the snake department though so I relocated this little beauty to a heavily wooded area 3 miles away that has a creek running through it. It will do fine there.

I had a gift shop in Pa in a small town, My kids used to play in a tiny creek out back, all week long they kept telling me about this huge snake, I thought they were telling fish stories, Well we were closed on Sunday
and other people in the town decieded to go sit by the creek and found a boa or python and had the local news station come out and take pictures, I for got now which it was all I know is it was 6 feet long, and I was sorry I did not listen to my kids fish story. And hear you are listening to the birds.
Because we live up north the game warden said it was cold/sick/weak and probably would/could not have hurt anyone.
Down south and out west though I hear stories of them thriving and growing huge after people dump them SCARRY !!!!

What a pretty corn snake!
We have one very spoiled corn snake named "Snow White"
it is one of those pets that I really wanted, so I had my three year old ask my DH till he thought it was his idea to get our daughter a pet snake:D

What a cute little guy! Of course, he'll grow up to be a chicken eater, so it's a good thing you re-homed him!
My DH thinks I'm nuts, too... When I see a snake in our yard I just run up and grab it (except for rattlers  ) then I take it next door to show the 6 year old girl that lives there.
There is a big field down the street from my house that all the snakes are re-homed to!

Good for you Lisa! A lot of people would have just killed him. Corn snakes are more interested in mice them chickens. One that small could have been chicken food.
